Brand guidelines
Using the editmd name and mark.
editmd is free. To keep it that way we are exploring affiliate links and sponsorships. These guidelines say how the name and mark may be used by anyone who writes about the app, links to it, or works with us, and what we will not do in return.
Questions and permission requests go through the contact page.
The name
- editmd, always lowercase, one word, no space and no capital letters.
- Not EditMD, Editmd, edit.md or edit md.
- Describe it as "a free Markdown editor for Mac". The full line we use: "Create, edit, preview and review Markdown on your Mac. A free, local editor with optional AI assistance and flexible exports."
- Made by Brencel AS. Write "editmd by Brencel" when the maker matters, never "Brencel editmd".
- The editmd name and wordmark are trademarks of Brencel AS, and the artwork on this site is © Brencel AS. Use under these guidelines needs no further permission; anything else does.
Wordmark and mark
The wordmark is the name set in Schibsted Grotesk Bold with the prompt glyph>_ in the accent colour before it. It is the only mark in use today. A standalone logo mark is being designed; until it exists, the wordmark is the mark, and the tile below is the space it will take.
placeholder · assets pending
Logo files will be published on this page when the mark is finalised. Until then, use the wordmark as text, or ask us for a rendering.
Colour
One accent, amber, on a near-black or paper ground. The Terminal appearance is a website and demo theme only; the app itself offers System, Light and Dark.
Type
All four typefaces are served with this website under their own licences; see thefont notices.
Using the mark
Do
- Use the wordmark unchanged, in amber and paper on dark, or amber and ink on light.
- Keep clear space around it equal to the height of the letter "e".
- Show it no smaller than 20 px high on screen or 6 mm in print.
- Link the mark to https://editmd.app.
Do not
- Recolour, outline, rotate, stretch or add shadows or gradients.
- Combine it with another logo into one lock-up, or make it part of your own name.
- Use it to imply endorsement, partnership or an official status we have not agreed in writing.
- Use it on a page that offers a download of editmd; downloads come only from editmd.app.
Partners, affiliates and sponsors
editmd is free for everyone, and it will stay free. To fund the work we are exploring two things: affiliate links, where editmd may earn a commission when someone buys a related product through a link we publish, and sponsorships, where a company supports the project and is named for it.
- Labelled. Anything sponsored or affiliate-linked on editmd.app is marked as such where it appears.
- Separate from the app. Sponsorships never change what the app does, what it sends, or which AI providers it supports.
- Separate from the handbook. The handbook and Markdown School carry no sponsored content.
- Your data is not the product. The website runs no advertising network, no analytics and no tracking, and that does not change with a sponsor.
If you want to write about editmd, link to it, or talk about sponsoring it, thecontact page is the place to start.
